| News: Codemasters Connect 08 |
According to the email I just received, the biggest community event of the year is only ten days away!
They say this event "has been touted as the premier global gaming event for 2008 featuring all of Codemasters Online's successful MMO titles including The Lord Of The Rings Online™: Shadows of Angmar™, ArchLord, RF Online, DUNGEONS & DRAGONS ONLINE™: Stormreach™ and the newly announced Jumpgate Evolution". All wonderful games there, I imagine.
At Codemasters Connect 08, attendees can expect to meet others gamers as well as some devs of the games mentioned above. If that wasn't thrilling enough, there is also LARP and a goodie bag. LARP and a goodie bag.
It's in the Omega Sektor in Birmingham on the 14th and 15th of March, if you care. |
| News: Mario Kart Online Details |
With the release of Mario Kart Wii fast approaching (April 11th for us in Europe), Nintendo have decided to put up some details of how their online system for it will work. Of course, being Nintendo, there is no consistency here. Brawl hates rankings, so Mario Kart Wii will too right? Wrong.
Firstly, the three categories of the DS version remain: Worldwide, Continental and Friends. As you would imagine, Worldwide and Continental will match you up with random people and Friends matches you up with idiots you exchanged Friend Codes with on some random internet forum.
In all cases, races can be up to twelve players which is quite a drastic jump from Mario Kart DS's four. When you search, you will be placed into a queue with other players searching or, the more likely case, join a race in progress. In the latter scenario, you will be a spectator until the next race starts.
Friends mode has a little more depth in that you can actually create or join a room with your buddies, and then send predefined text message to them such as "Let's race!", "I'm the best!" and "Tomorrow is my 11th birthday!".
More interestingly, though, Mario Kart Wii will install a new Channel on your Wii. Called the Mario Kart Wii Channel, it doesn't win any contests for original naming but contests do seem to be the order of the day here. You'll be able to look at global rankings for Time Trials from any of the courses in the game and players will be displayed as Miis on a far-too-colourful graph in which you'll be able to select the guy in first place and race against his (or her!) ghost.
Additionally, Nintendo will be offering Competitions via this channel at random times. Similar to the Missions on the DS version, apparently, but not much else is known at this point. |
